Training on the use of Long Range Vessel Identification and Tracking System (LRIT) has been launched in Batumi with the support of the European Maritime Safety Agency (EMSA).

The training organized by the Maritime Transport Agency is being conducted at the Batumi Navigation Training University and is led by representatives of the European Maritime Safety Agency (EMSA): Vincent Guida, Senior Project Officer, Responsible for EU LRIT CDC Operations, and Lazaro Aichmalotidis, Head of Ships and Port Reporting Unit.

Georgia became part of this system this spring, it is enjoying the same rights and services as EU member states.

Through this system Georgia has the opportunity:

Automatically receive information about ships flying its flag from anywhere in the world every 6 hours;

Request information on any vessel sailing on EU water, which will pass within 1,000 nautical miles of our borders;

By joining the European Union's LRIT system we will have access to information exchange and cooperation with the World Wide Network (LRIT) and its member states.

Nowadays the LRIT of the EU countries is the largest data management center involved in the global LRIT system, which monitors 8,000 vessels per day.
