BNU's X International Scientific Conference –
On June 24, 2026, Batumi Navigation University organized its X International Scientific Conference, dedicated to the International Day of the Seafarer. The online conference was held under the theme "Sustainable Transport System and Maritime Logistics."
The conference once again highlighted Batumi Navigation University's significant role in strengthening international academic and maritime cooperation. The event brought together 133 researchers and experts from 35 universities and academic institutions across 20 countries, who presented 61 scientific papers. The research covered a wide range of contemporary topics, including the sustainable development of maritime transport, green technologies, maritime logistics and supply chain management, maritime education, safety, maritime law and the digital transformation of the maritime sector.
The opening ceremony featured a welcome address by Mr. Ivane Abashidze, Director of the Maritime Transport Agency of Georgia, who emphasized Georgia's growing role in the regional and global transport system, the importance of advancing maritime education and the future prospects of sustainable maritime logistics.
"Today, the global transport sector is undergoing a significant transformation. Georgia, as a natural bridge connecting Europe and Asia, is actively developing the Middle Corridor, modern port infrastructure and digital technologies. Over the past four years, cargo throughput at Georgia's seaports has increased by approximately 46%, confirming the country's growing importance as a reliable transit hub. However, our greatest asset is our people - more than 21,000 Georgian seafarers who have become a symbol of professionalism and high competence within the international fleet. That is why we continue to invest in maritime education, innovation, and the preparation of a new generation of specialists, with the goal of establishing Georgia as a modern, sustainable, digital and competitive maritime nation," stated Ivane Abashidze.
The conference participants were also welcomed by representatives of international organizations and partner universities. Throughout the day, thematic sessions provided a platform for scientists, researchers and maritime professionals from around the world to share the latest research findings, innovative approaches and professional experience related to the development of sustainable transport systems and maritime logistics.
Batumi Navigation University extends its sincere gratitude to all keynote speakers, researchers, partner organizations and participants for their valuable contribution to strengthening international scientific cooperation and promoting knowledge exchange. The University remains committed to further advancing international research collaboration, fostering innovation and supporting the continued development of maritime education.
