Webinar „AI and Sustainability“

On 27 January 2026, an international webinar titled “AI and Sustainability” was held, organised by The Nautical Institute. The webinar was attended by the academic and invited staff of Batumi Navigation University.

The webinar addressed the growing role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the maritime sector and its impact on sustainable development, education, and professional practice. Particular attention was paid to the following key questions:

• What does the integration of AI mean for maritime education?
• How are the working environment and professional competencies changing in the modern maritime industry?
• What new requirements are emerging for future maritime professions?

The aim of the webinar was to present participants with both practical and strategic perspectives on the use of AI, including:

• The role of AI in maritime education and training;
• The development of professional skills and transversal competencies;
• The shaping of future maritime professions and adaptation to technological change.

Participation in such international initiatives represents an important step for Batumi Navigation University in aligning its educational processes with contemporary challenges and in supporting the continuous professional development of its academic staff.
