Webinar: The Impact of Technology on Seafarers (EN)

On March 31, 2026, the academic and invited staff of Batumi Navigation University participated in the webinar titled “The Impact of Technology on Seafarers.”

The webinar addressed the rapid transformation of the maritime industry driven by increased ship connectivity, digitalization, the development of artificial intelligence, and the implementation of other modern technologies. These processes are significantly reshaping maritime operations; however, one of the key questions remains — how these changes affect seafarers themselves.

During the webinar, leading industry experts discussed the following topics:

• the impact of technological developments on the working environment of seafarers;
• new operational models of ships and automation;
• skills and competencies required for modern seafarers;
• seafarers’ welfare and safety in the context of technological changes;
• the importance of a “human-centered” approach in the process of maritime transformation.
