LLC “Sagittarius” – Seafarers’ Medical Center is a partner institution of Batumi Navigation University (BNU), where university applicants, students, vocational students, and graduates undergo medical examinations.

Seafarers worldwide are required to undergo periodic medical examinations to determine their fitness for professional work at sea. According to the requirements of the International Maritime Organization (IMO), the health of seafarers, maritime professionals and students must comply with established standards, defined by specific criteria and assessed in specialized, accredited medical institutions.

Therefore, applicants to maritime educational institutions are obliged to undergo medical examinations at the aforementioned medical centers (obtain a medical certificate in Form #100 and submit it to the educational institution) to avoid any disruption in their future professional activities.

Graduates and seafarers are required to undergo periodic pre-sea medical examinations and provide the educational institution—and subsequently their employer—with a medical certificate confirming their professional fitness.

At the Seafarers’ Medical Center “Sagittarius,” medical examinations are conducted for applicants, students and seafarers. The center issues medical reports and certificates of professional fitness. Certification is carried out in accordance with national standards, as well as international standards set by the IMO, International Labour Organization (ILO) and World Health Organization (WHO).

Since 2010, the center has been recognized by the Maritime Transport Agency of the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia. It holds ISO 9001:2015 certification and complies with Regulation 1.2 of the Maritime Labour Convention (MLC 2006). In 2015, it was awarded the honorary title of “Industry Leader” by the International Union of National Business Ratings.

The health of Georgian seafarers is one of the main priorities of the Sagittarius Medical Center. The center pays special attention to each applicant, student, and seafarer, addressing their individual needs and concerns. Its doctors are highly qualified and experienced professionals who provide consultations, medical care, and assistance to seafarers both at sea and on land.
