Writing a Cover Letter

A cover letter should capture the employer's interest, helping you stand out from other candidates and securing an interview. While the resume provides general information about your background, the cover letter offers a concise explanation of why you're well-suited for the job, highlighting your qualifications, skills, and experience. For many employers, a compelling cover letter is a crucial component of the application.

From the cover letter, the prospective employer learns:

  • Why you are interested in working for this company and in this specific role.
  • How your experience aligns with the company’s requirements.
  • Your qualifications, demonstrating how well you fit the advertised position, with the letter being closely tied to the employer’s needs.

A cover letter includes following:

  • Contact information (name, surname, address, telephone, e-mail address of the job seeker);
  • Date of writing the letter;
  • Company name; name and surname of the employer;
  • Formal greeting;
  • The main text of the letter;
  • Conclusion.

The first paragraph should consist of three to four sentences where you clearly state:

  • The purpose of your communication with the employer.
  • The position you are applying for.
  • Your interest in this role and the organization.

In the final paragraph, summarize the key points discussed. This paragraph is typically longer than the others and can be divided into two parts if needed.

Conclude the letter with a respectful closing, followed by your name, surname, and signature.
