Since April 2002, the International Maritime Training Center Mercury LLC has been developing a quality management system according to ISO 9001:1994  standards. After successfully passing the certification stages, the center received its first compliance certificate in October of the same year. Concurrently, Batumi Maritime College-Seafarers’ School LLC underwent a similar process and was awarded its first compliance certificate in January 2003.

With the expiration of ISO 9001:1994 and the introduction of ISO 9001:2000, the International Maritime Training Center Mercury LLC was awarded a certificate of compliance with ISO 9001:2000 in December 2004, valid for three years.

In June 2007, "Batumi Navigation Institute - International Maritime Training Center" LLC was established on the basis of "Batumi Maritime College" LLC, incorporating the "International Maritime Training Center Mercury" LLC. The quality system documentation was updated to reflect the new name, and in February 2008, the institution received a new ISO 9001:2000 compliance certificate and an IQNet  certificate, both valid for three years.

On November 15, 2008, the fourth version of the international quality standard was published, designated as ISO 9001:2008. This version did not introduce new requirements but included clarifications based on global implementation experiences.

On August 10, 2009, following amendments to the Law of Georgia "On Higher Education," the school was renamed to Batumi Navigation Teaching University LLC, and its quality system documentation was updated accordingly.

In January 2010, following the results of the latest supervisory audit, Batumi Navigation Teaching University LLC was awarded the ISO 9001:2008 compliance certificate and the IQNet certificate.

On February 29, 2011, after the certification period expired and based on the recertification audit results, BNTU's quality system was reapproved, receiving new ISO 9001:2008 and IQNet certificates for another three years.

On February 20 and 21, 2014, auditors from "Russian Register-West Georgia" LLC conducted a recertification audit of the quality management system at BNTU. Based on the audit results, BNTU was awarded the ISO 9001:2008 compliance certificate and the IQNet certificate.

On January 16 and 17, 2017, auditors from "Russian Register-West Georgia" LLC conducted a recertification audit of the quality management system at BNTU. Based on the audit results, BNTU was awarded the ISO 9001:2015 compliance certificate and the IQNet certificate.

On February 20 and 21, 2020, auditors from "Russian Register-West Georgia" LLC conducted a recertification audit of the quality management system at BNTU. Based on the audit results, BNTU was awarded the ISO 9001:2015 compliance certificate and the IQNet certificate.

On March 9, 2023, auditors from "Russian Register-West Georgia" LLC conducted a recertification audit of the quality management system at BNTU. Based on the audit results, BNTU was awarded the ISO 9001:2015 compliance certificate.

On January 28, 2026, auditors from "Russian Register-West Georgia" LLC conducted a recertification audit of the quality management system at BNU. Based on the audit results, BNU was awarded the ISO 9001:2015 compliance certificate.

The international quality certificate guarantees reliability, service quality assurance at BNU, continuous improvement, personnel competence, and international competitiveness.
