Opening of Annual General Assembly of IAMU

On October 19, 2022, the 22nd Annual General Assembly of the International Maritime Universities (IAMU) was opened in Batumi, at the Sheraton Batumi Hotel. Batumi Navigation Teaching University attended the event.The international forum is being held in Georgia for the first time and its organizer is the Batumi State Maritime Academy.
Chairman of Adjara Government Tornike Rizhvadze, Deputy Minister of Economy of Georgia Guram Guramishvili, Head of Maritime Transport Agency Tamar Ioselian and Rector of Batumi State Maritime Academy Murtaz Devadze addressed the guests and delegates at the event.
Encouraging innovations in maritime education and training, maritime safety, strengthening the role of women and promoting the introduction of new technologies were the main topics of the event.
Representatives of maritime universities participating in the conference and experts in the field discussed the achievements of the maritime field, as well as outlined future trends in the field of maritime education, seafarer training and research.
During the plenary session, BNTU rector Parmen Khvedelidze and second deputy rector George Gabedava were presented with certificates of appreciation for their contribution to the evaluation process of IAMU research projects.
This year the event is held in a hybrid format. Representatives of member universities of the organization, students and representatives of maritime industry are invited to the forum.
IAMU unites 68 higher education institutions of 36 countries around the world. Its honorary members include the World Maritime University (WMU) and the Nippon Foundation.
