BNU Representative Participates in WMU Maritime Affairs Conference 2026

From 26 to 28 August 2026George Gabedava, Head of the International Relations Service and Professor at Batumi Navigation University (BNU), participated by special invitation in the WMU Maritime Affairs Conference 2026, held at the World Maritime University (WMU) in Malmö, Sweden.

The WMU Maritime Affairs Conference is a high-level international platform that brings together leading representatives of academia, the maritime industry, international organizations, and policy-making institutions. The 2026 conference focused on the theme “Transforming Shipping in Practice: Decarbonization, Digitalization, and Arctic Navigation.”

During the three-day conference, particular attention was devoted to key issues shaping the future of the maritime industry, including decarbonization, the digital transformation of maritime transport, the development of artificial intelligence and autonomous technologies, evolving regulatory frameworks, and Arctic navigation. The programme featured thematic sessions, keynote presentations, and professional discussions involving international experts.

Participation in the conference provided an important opportunity to strengthen international academic and professional networks, exchange experience on current developments in maritime education and research, and explore new opportunities for international cooperation for Batumi Navigation University.

BNU’s representation at high-level international events of this kind contributes to enhancing the University’s international visibility, strengthening its engagement within the global maritime academic community, and developing new institutional, educational, and research partnerships.
