On December 8, 2020, the International Maritime Lecturers Association (IMLA) celebrated its 40th years anniversary.An online forum "IMLA 40 YEARS: Maritime Education for a Sustainable Shipping" was held on the occasion of the anniversary.

The forum was opened by the chairperson of the International Maritime Lecturers Association (IMLA) - Jin, YongXing.The audience was also addressed by the Secretary General of the International Maritime Organization - Kitack Lim and the President of the World Maritime University - Cleopatra Doumbia-Henry.

The event was attended by the Chancellor of Batumi Navigation Teaching University Lali Khvedelidze and BNTU staff.

The forum reviewed the development stages of the association over the last 40 years;During the panel discussion, participants discussed and proposed perspectives on how maritime education can be transformed to ensure sustainable shipping and what role the IMLA can play in the coming decades.
