The Permanent Conference Of Rectors 08.08.2021

The Chancellor of the Batumi Navigation Teaching University, Head of the Quality Assurance Service and Head of the International Relations Service attended the second session of the Permanent Conference of Rectors on July 7-8, 2021.Rectors and representatives of more than 30 higher education institutions of Georgia participated in the conference.
The meeting was opened by the Rector of Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University Merab Khalvashi and the Rector of Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University Giorgi Sharvashidze.
At the two-day conference, the heads of higher education institutions accredited in Georgia discussed issues related to university freedom and academic freedom, determining the legal status of universities and ensuring inter-university communication.
They also discussed the membership of the Permanent Conference of Rectors in the European Universities Association. In 2019, Giorgi Sharvashidze, Rector of Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University, was elected the first Chairman of the Permanent Conference of Rectors.
The Permanent Conference of Rectors was established in July 2019. The conference agree the fundamental principles of the Magna Charta Universitatum of the Grand Charter of European Universities, such as the provision of academic freedom, the autonomy of universities, the sharing of European and national humanistic traditions, the integration of teaching and research, and more. It is a kind of platform where rectors discuss the challenges of higher education, discuss issues related to the funding of higher education institutions, and assure positions on education reform.
The conference was hosted by the Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University.
