Public Lecture: The Second Generation of Intact Ship Stability Criteria – the Future Approach to the Assessment of Ship Stability Safety
On 1 July 2026, BNU hosted a public lecture delivered by Dr. Paweł Chorab, a representative of the Department of Ocean Engineering and Ship Technology at the Maritime University of Szczecin (Poland).
The lecture, entitled "The Second Generation of Intact Ship Stability Criteria – the Future Approach to the Assessment of Ship Stability Safety," was held for BNU undergraduate and vocational students.
During the session, the speaker presented modern approaches to ship stability assessment, the necessity of introducing the second generation of intact stability criteria, the new requirements developed by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) and their significance for the safe operation of modern ships. Particular attention was also given to the challenges of assessing ship stability under extreme weather conditions and in dynamic marine environments.
The lecture was conducted in an interactive format, providing participants with the opportunity to ask questions and receive comprehensive answers from a specialist with extensive international experience.
BNU has maintained successful cooperation with the Maritime University of Szczecin for many years, implementing student and staff exchange programmes. Dr. Chorab's visit is taking place within the framework of the ERASMUS+ International Credit Mobility Programme.
