Maritime Labor Market Survey Report

The Maritime Labor Market Survey was carried out by the Adjara Employment Agency and the results were presented to those employed in the maritime field.

The meeting was attended by the Rector of Batumi Navigation Teaching University Parmen Khvedelidze and Deputy Rector Gela Gvarishvili.

The challenges facing the world maritime labor market were discussed at the meeting:

Cost-effectiveness of cruise tourism has decreased;

Establishing and adapting newly emerging resource markets in cruise tourism remains a major challenge;

Lack of coordination between cruise companies, government agencies, seafarers' unions and international organizations remains a problem.

The purpose of the study was to identify the maritime labor market, in particular, the prospects of employment of Georgian citizens in the maritime field at various positions,  both on cargo ships as well as cruise liners.

During the study desk research and the in-depth (expert) interview were used.25 respondents, experts, including representatives of Batumi Navigation Teaching University were interviewed.

Recommendations were given at the meeting.

The survey results will be used by BNTU in the contingency planning and in labor market summary analysis processes.
