Suspension of the status of a student, vocational student, or trainee refers to a temporary release from fulfilling the rights and obligations of both BNU and the individual, based on mutual agreement, without terminating their status.

Suspension of student/vocational student/trainee status is possible as follows: In the case of higher education programs, the status may be suspended for a total period of no more than 5 years, and in the case of vocational programs, for no more than 5 years, after which the person will be terminated from student/vocational student status accordingly. In the case of trainees enrolled in vocational training and retraining programs, the suspension period of trainee status is determined by the relevant regulatory act governing the procedures, after which the person’s trainee status will be terminated.

The grounds for suspending a student status at BNU include:

• Personal request
• Cancellation of the educational program
• Studying at a foreign educational institution (excluding participation in exchange or joint educational programs)
• Pregnancy, childbirth, childcare or health-related issues
• Failure to complete administrative or academic registration
• Financial debt or failure to meet financial obligations/contract terms
• Initiation of legal proceedings or enforcement of a court ruling

The grounds for suspending a vocational student status at BNU include:

• Personal request
• Cancellation of the educational program
• Studying at a foreign educational institution (excluding participation in exchange or joint educational programs)
• Pregnancy, childbirth, childcare or health-related issues
• Failure to complete administrative or academic registration
• Financial debt or failure to meet financial obligations/contract terms
• Initiation of legal proceedings or enforcement of a court ruling
• Submitting an application for transfer to another educational institution through the mobility program.
• Failure of a vocational student to complete at least 50% of the educational program's credits within the designated time frame
• Failure to appear for or receiving an unsatisfactory evaluation in the qualification exam/re-exam for the professional education program.

The status of a student/vocational student/trainee must be restored within the period set for the suspension. In cases of suspension due to financial debt or failure to meet financial obligations/contract terms, the violation must be resolved to reinstate the status.

The grounds for termination of student status at BNU are as follows:

• Expiration of the suspension period
• Personal request
• Transfer to another educational institution
• Completion of the educational program
• Inability to achieve the learning outcomes outlined in the program
• Engaging in actions incompatible with student status
• Final conviction for an offense that warrants termination of student status
• Death of the individual, legal recognition of incapacitation, or other cases specified by applicable law

The grounds for termination of vocational student status at BNU are as follows:

• Expiration of the suspension period
• Personal request
• Transfer to another educational institution
• Completion of the educational program
• Inability to achieve the learning outcomes outlined in the program
• Engaging in actions incompatible with student status
• Final conviction for an offense that warrants termination of student status
• Death of the individual, legal recognition of incapacitation
• Failure of a vocational student to complete at least 50% of the educational program's credits within the designated time frame
• Failure to appear for or receiving an unsatisfactory evaluation in the qualification exam/re-exam for the professional education program.

Status Restoration

Restoration of student/vocational student/trainee status is carried out no later than within the period established for the suspension of status. In cases where status was suspended due to financial debt, financial obligations or failure to fulfill contractual terms, elimination of the violation is required for the restoration of status.

This provision does not apply to learners studying in educational programs fully funded by the state. In all other cases, if status is restored at BNU, any tuition fees paid before the suspension of status shall be counted toward tuition fees payable after restoration of status (meaning the amount resulting from subtracting the tuition fee for the already elapsed study period from the amount paid at the time of the suspension decision).

For the purpose of status restoration, the learner must submit an application to BNU (to the head of the structural unit implementing the program). The application must be submitted before the start of the semester (before the end of the administrative registration period). A suspended learner who, due to a justified reason, was unable to comply with the established procedure may submit an application to the head of the structural unit implementing the educational program, explaining the reason for the violation of the procedure (the application must be accompanied by supporting documentation). The applicant may request restoration of status, completion of administrative/academic registration, and continuation of studies within a different timeframe than the established one.

The application and supporting documents must be submitted to the registry office or sent to BNU’s official email address (working days: Monday–Friday, 10:00–18:00).

All applications and supporting documents are reviewed by the Rector, the Head of Administration (Chancellor) and the head of the structural unit implementing the educational program. The decision is made considering the reasons stated in the application, the attached documents, and the date of submission. A positive decision may be made only if it is possible to complete the program components and fulfill the required conditions within the remaining period of the semester/study cycle (including through an individual schedule). The decision is communicated to the learner within the timeframe established by the internal regulations for reviewing applications.

The restoration of student/vocational student/trainee status is formalized by an order issued by the authorized person, and the data is entered into the Educational Management Information System in accordance with the procedure established by law.
