Ship Agent Training Program

The global supply chain is a complex concept, and achieving efficiency at even one link in the chain has a positive effect on every subsequent one. Ship agents are a critically important link in this chain. They operate in a competitive and constantly changing market, which requires well-trained professionals capable of providing high-quality services. Such professionalism, in turn, influences both the development prospects of the supply system and the country’s overall logistics potential.

A ship agent is a person employed by a ship operator or ship manager through an agency company to represent the interests of the shipowner in a foreign (non-home) port. The agent acts as an intermediary between the ship operator, the port administration, and government authorities regarding the ship’s entry into and departure from the port. In agreement with the shipowner, the agent is the authorized representative of the ship, its captain, and crew in a particular port. The agent coordinates communication between the ship and all port services and carries out all types of financial settlements related to the ship’s arrival, departure, and cargo operations.

Upon successful completion of the course, participants will be able to:

  • Correctly identify and prepare ship and cargo documentation;
  • Coordinate communication between the ship and port/state authorities;
  • Organize the opening and closing of the ship’s border;
  • Monitor cargo operations and handle related financial settlements;
  • Communicate effectively within the maritime sector;
  • Prepare standard business documentation in English;
  • Perform relevant actions within the maritime “single-window” system.
