Radar Navigation, Radar Plotting and Use of APRA

 

The course is designed to meet the requirements for training in the use of navigation systems RADAR for officers in charge of a navigational watch, based on regulation I/12 and II/1, Section A‐II/1, Table A‐II/1 in reference to the „use of radar and ARPA to maintain safety of navigation” of the International Convention STCW 1978, as amended.

A trainee successfully completing this course will recognize when radar should be in use; recognize critical targets, fixing the ship’s position and maintaining a plot of the movement of other ships as an aid to collision avoidance in accordance to International Regulation for preventing Collisions at Sea (COLREG).

Entry standards

For entry to the course the candidate should present:

  • Certificate of Competency or Certificate of Proficiency or educational diplomaor provisional certificate of study (for students);
  • Passport or Seaman’s Book or Seafarer’s Identity Document;
  • Seafarer’s Medical Certificate
