The program covers and includes the competencies outlined in STCW Convention Chapter II and Code Table A-II/2.
Upon completing the course, the participant will be able to:
- Determine when radar should be used.
- Supervise watchkeeping officers in the use of radar.
- Understand the limitations of the equipment and accurately assess the reliability and precision of the information displayed on the screen.
- Focus on radar functions related to position fixing, navigation, threat detection, and plotting alternative courses.
- Coordinate the preparation of voyage plans for the vessel.
- Understand the provisions of the 1972 International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea (COLREGs) in relation to radar usage.
- Assess the current situation and risks and take appropriate measures.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of avoidance actions and choose the appropriate course and speed.
- Instruct the navigation bridge team to use radar information to identify the position of a distress target.
- Approach the distress target by continuously setting radar parameters and evaluating radar information.
Entry Standards
To register for the course, it is mandatory to present copies of the following documents along with the originals:
- Certificate of Competency
- Passport or Seaman’s Book or Seafarer’s Identity Document;
- Seafarer’s Medical Certificate
