ENCLOSED SPACE ENTRY

 

The program covers the competences of SOLAS Chapter III Regulations 19.3.6.2 Emergency Training and drills, IMO Resolution A.1050 (27) “Revised Recommendations for Entering Enclosed Spaces aboard Ships”, IMO Resolution MSC.350 (92), SOLAS Chapter XI 1, Regulation 7. - “Atmosphere testing instrument for enclosed spaces” and IMO MSC.1/Circ 1477 and IMO MSC.1/Circ 1485.

Upon successful completion of course, the trainee will be able to:

  • Define what an Enclosed space is and will be able to identify and understand Permit-Required Enclosed Spaces
  • Identify and understand non-Permit Enclosed Spaces.
  • Identify and understand the hazards associated with Enclosed Spaces and also ways to control these hazards
  • Understand the key roles associated with Enclosed space entry. This includes the Attendant, Entrant and Supervisor
  • Gain introductory knowledge of emergency rescue as well as types of PPE that may be required for entry into Enclosed spaces.
  • Understand the process for testing the Atmosphere in a Enclosed space and the permit system in an Enclosed space.
  • Gain knowledge on how to isolate, ventilate and evaluate the space in preparation for entry.
  • Gain insight into the three types of rescue techniques

Entry standards

For entry to the course the candidate should present:

  • Certificate of Competency or Certificate of Proficiency or educational diploma or provisional certificate of study (for students);
  • Passport or Seaman’s Book or Seafarer’s Identity Document;
  • Seafarer’s Medical Certificate.
