Safe Mooring Operations

 

The program covers the competences of STCW Convention and Code  (as amended) STCW Section A-II/1,  A-II/2,  A-II/3, A-II/5, A-II/4,  Table II/1,  II/2,  II/3, Table II/5, II/4, SOLAS Regulation II-1/3-8 on Towing and Mooring Equipment,  International Maritime Organization (IMO) guidelines, OCIMF Mooring Guidelines / Mooring Equipment Guidelines,  Code of safe working practices for merchant seafarers (COSWP) requirements and standards.

Upon completion of course, the trainee will be able to:

  • Assess the condition of mooring equipment, including certification and load ratings for wire and synthetic mooring lines, and describe maintenance procedures.
  • Identify the risks associated with mooring operations and explain the impact of dynamic loads on mooring activities.
  • Conduct mooring operation planning and risk assessment, carry out safety briefings, and apply appropriate safety procedures.
  • Perform practical mooring techniques.
  • Participate in simulated mooring operations, assign roles, use communication devices, and execute standard mooring configurations.
  • Engage in teamwork and leadership processes, ensuring effective communication, fatigue management, and clear role distribution.
  • Respond appropriately to emergency situations.

Entry standards

For entry to the course the candidate should present:

  • Certificate of Competency or Certificate of Proficiency;
  • Passport or Seaman’s Book or Seafarer’s Identity Document;
  • Seafarer’s Medical Certificate

Course duration: 2 days (12 hours)
