Maritime Accident and Incident Investigation

This course provides participants with basic knowledge and skills to effectively investigate maritime accidents and incidents. It focuses on understanding how to gather evidence, identify causes, and take steps to prevent future incidents, supporting the continuous improvement of safety on board ships.

On completion of the course, candidates will be able to:

  • Understand the purpose and importance of maritime accident investigations.
  • Identify key steps in the investigation process.
  • Collect evidence, including documents and witness statements.
  • Organize a simple sequence of events to understand what happened.
  • Identify basic causes of incidents and suggest ways to prevent them.
  • Prepare simple investigation reports.

Entry Standards

Candidates must present:

  • Certificate of Competency, Certificate of Proficiency, or educational diploma.
  • Passport, Seaman’s Book, or Seafarer’s Identity Document.
  • Valid Seafarer’s Medical Certificate.
