The program covers the competences of Chapter IV of STCW Convention (as amended) and Section A-IV/2, Table A-IV/2 of STCW Code.
A trainee successfully completing the course will be able to efficiently operate the radio operation equipment, and to have primary responsibility to radio communications during distress-, urgency-, safety and routine incidents. Given the number of severe problems being experienced in the radio operation as a result of the large amount of false Distress alerts that sometimes occur, training will also be provided in techniques to avoid the unintentional transmission of false Distress alerts and the procedures to use in order to mitigate the effects of false Distress alerts following unintentional transmission.
Entry standards
For entry to the course the candidate should present:
- Certificate of Competency or Certificate of Proficiency or educational diplomaor provisional certificate of study (for students);
- Passport or Seaman’s Book or Seafarer’s Identity Document;
- Seafarer’s Medical Certificate
In case of Refresh course, additionally:
- Copy of the old Radio Operator certificate
